Due to school closures, we're pivoting our LCC Secrets exhibit to instagram! Please read the information below carefully before submitting your secret so you are fully informed about participation in this unique art show. Please direct any questions to Mrs. MacKenzie.
HOW IT WORKS:
- STEP 1: Write a secret, something you’ve never told anyone. Your secret can be a regret, betrayal, fear, desire, confession, or childhood humiliation. Reveal anything - as long as it is true and you’ve never shared it with anyone before. Be creative! Let the secret be your canvas. But no pressure. You DON’T have to be an artist to participate. *Secrets can be drawn, collaged, painted by hand, or created digitally. Once it’s done, take a photo of your artwork or save it as a .JPG file on your computer.
- STEP 2: Take a photo of your artwork (or save it as a JPEG if you made it on the computer).
- STEP 3: Submit the photo of your secret virtually by MAY 8TH by clicking the "Submit a Secret" link above.
- STEP 4: Follow the LCC Secrets Instagram account (@lcc.secrets) to see your artwork anonymously displayed with the rest of LCC's secrets starting May 25th.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
- You will need to include your student ID in the submission form.
- Profanity or vulgarity that is not necessary for the secret will not be accepted. If profanity is crucial for the secret (”My best friend called me a &!+@# behind my back”), there are creative ways of honoring the truth of your secret without prominently displaying offensive language. Consider black bars or swapping symbols for one or more of the letters.
- Secrets that are (or appear to be) intended to threaten, offend, provoke, degrade, dehumanize, or discriminate will not be accepted.
- Students may request a follow up from counseling or PALs for a wellness check in. We will not refer a student under any other circumstances.
- If a secret divulges acts of abuse or neglect or falls under professional responsibilities for mandated reporting in any way, the incident is legally required to be reported.
SAFETY & ANONYMITY DISCLAIMER
- ANONYMITY vs. MANDATED REPORTING: Anonymity and student trust is crucial to the success of this project. However, as mandated reporters, we are legally required to report if we have cause to believe a minor is the victim of abuse. In the event someone divulges a secret that would require us to report, we must be able to trace secrets back to students. Student ID numbers will NOT be attached to or displayed with the secrets to protect anonymity during the exhibit.
- WHO WILL SCREEN THE SECRETS? Mrs. MacKenzie will file the submission slips in a lock box in the event that a secret divulges abuse or neglect which is required by law to be reported. No students will be able to access student IDs or the identity of the secret writers. No identification will be added to the artwork and identities will not be displayed with secrets at the exhibit in any way.
